Get Britain Working

Communities that Work is engaged with upcoming Local Get Britain Working Plans, which are coming to all neighbourhoods in England by the Autumn. These Local Plans will devise, develop and deliver on employment and skills goals, aim to reach more economically inactive people and seek local partnerships to boost growth and opportunity across communities.

In November 2024, the government released the Get Britain Working White Paper, which set out plans to reduce economic inactivity. The plans sit alongside the broader devolution agenda and promise greater local control of employment, skills support, and health services. These reforms will impact local neighbourhoods and local people and influence how housing providers engage and deliver employment and skills support to residents and the wider community.

Social Housing should be at the heart of Local Get Britain Working Plans. Communities that Work urged the DWP to add social housing as a key partner in the development of Local Get Britain Working (GBW) Plans. The guidance for the development of Local GBW Plans now states that local partnerships matter and that housing associations can be consulted in the development of Local GBW plans.
CtW & NHF Get Britain Working Webinar:

Communities that Work, in partnership with the DWP and the National Housing Federation, hosted a webinar which explored the Government’s Get Britain Working Plans and the new Local Plans coming into place, set to be delivered in collaboration with local partners, including social housing providers. Through collaboration, tailored support, and active participation in local planning, housing associations can help address economic inactivity and contribute to the overall well-being of communities across England.
